dark sea, silent stars is inspired in part by the music of the ancient qin (Chinese zither). Timbral shadings, small pitch bends and inflections, and free-flowing improvisatory phrases are all reminiscent of traditional qin techniques, though reinterpreted and incorporated in a different manner. The title of this work reflects the tranquil and meditative quality of the music.
